Winter Floral Dress

The sunny spring season with its beautiful pastels, bright technicolor shades and dynamic sport details is around the corner. But while temperatures outside still remain quite low, 

I would like to share with you one of my favorite winter dresses that I wear throughout the winter and into the early spring.

Весенний сезон с его свежими пастельными тонами, насыщенными всплесками красок  и динамичным стилем спорт шик не за горами. Но пока весна еще не вступила в свои права, хочу поделиться с вами одним из моих любимых зимних платьев. 

Dutch masters’ still lives, Russian traditional folk trays, luscious flower prints of D&G collections… and many other comparisons rushed through my mind when I saw this fabric – a fine boiled wool of excellent quality. Quite vivid, in almost tropical bright colors on the right side, the fabric’s left side had a slightly washed out effect similar to the one you can see on the tapestry. And it was the left side that I chose when cutting the fabric for this dress.

Мимо ткани с таким рисунком было сложно пройти: в нем виделись и сицилийские принты известных итальянских дизайнеров, и букеты голландских мастеров, и жостовская роспись. Качество ткани – тонкий мягкий лоден – позволяло развернуться фантазии. Изначально раскроив платье на более яркую сторону, я поняла, что мне больше нравится приглушенный тон и эффект гобелена изнаночной стороны. 

The pattern from BurdaStyle 11/2012 is in my experience one of best patterns of a shift dress with sleeves. I used either top or bottom part of it at least 4 times and I am always tempted to use it again for making some basic wardrobe staples.

Due to the fine quality of the fabric ( soft wool with a bit of stretch and body), the dress is not lined. I finished the neckline using a bias tape that I made of thin black lining fabric. Hems and sleeves are finished with an overlock and stitched by hand.

Благодаря превосходному качеству этой тонкой шерсти, платье сшито без подклада. Горловина обработана бейкой из черной подкладочной ткани. Края низа и рукавов платья обработаны оверлоком и подшиты вручную.

As to styling, this bold floral print is very easy to wear. It looks rather classic when complemented with black. For an everyday street style look I just throw on a khaki down coat and bright green knitted scarf. For a night out I add heels and purls or oversize  jewelry.

Этот броский крупный принт отлично сочетается со многими цветами и платье можно носить в кардинально разных образах. Дополненное лишь черным цветом, оно смотрится очень классично. Для повседневного образа, его стоит только дополнить объемным мохеровым шарфом сочного зеленого цвета испортивным пуховиком темно-оливкового цвета. Для вечерних выходов достаточно добавить обувь на каблуке и жемчуг или крупные украшения.
